2020 EVENTS
July 11, 2020, 9:00 AM • NMRA  Achievement Program (AP) Success panel discussion, via the Zoom virtual meeting platform.

Do you want to create better model railroad structures, scenery, or rolling stock? Are you preparing to submit models in a contest, or for Achievement Program evaluation to seek a Merit Award? Are you curious about what gives scenery and models that extra boost from "great" to "outstanding"? If you say "Yes!" to any of these, we have the virtual program for you.

Featured panelists include three of PCR's best modelers and long-time members:
  • Frank Markovich, MMR®
  • Mike Blumensaadt, MMR®
  • Earl Girbovan
Frank, Mike, and Earl will address how to create structures, scenery and rolling stock that score high in AP evaluations. They'll address what details matter and what judges look for, plus provide tips and techniques to move your modeling one step up. Each will provide his views in each modeling area. For this meeting, Motive Power won't be addressed, but they'll have a few comments at the end regarding the Civil and Electrical certificates along with aspects of Judging.

The discussion should last for about 45 minutes with 15–20 minutes at the end for Q&A. Selected photos and slides will be presented.

To participate, use your computer or phone to join via Zoom using these details. But please note: Your NMRA dues pay for PCR resources. Please respect PCR and NMRA resources, and keep our meetings secure, by not forwarding these details to non-members. Thank you.

July 25, 2020, 11:00 AM to 2:00 PMCentral California Coast Garden Railroad Society Open House on Will Kastner and Lucinda Eileen's Monarch & Sand Railroad, Arroyo Grande, CA.

Will and Lucinda are pleased to welcome you to enjoy a visit to the Monarch & Sand Railroad. This railroad debuted during summer 2019 and was featured during the 2019 Central Coast Railroad Festival.

Our hosts are making necessary precautions. Guests are requested to wear face coverings during their visit, be mindful of appropriate social distancing and practice safe hand-hygiene as part of an integrated approach to reduce the risk of disease transmission. We appreciate each individual has their own comfort level and respect whatever steps you wish to take to feel safe, secure and welcome.

The Monarch & Sand garden railroad consists of a single loop, two of which have reversing capability and two have one siding each. The three loops are interconnected and have access to a “rail yard” and to two separate storage areas: an indoor patio and an outdoor shed. For more information about the railroad, click here for their website.

Railroad control: Guests are invited to bring their own analog DC, battery-powered and live-steam locomotives to operate on the track powered layout, which features 10 foot radius curves.

Menu: Our hosts will provide individually packaged snacks and drinks for your enjoyment. Guests need not bring food to share.

As of 26-May-2020, Santa Barbara County has mandated the use of face coverings when in public. Additionally, social distancing and frequent hand-washing are strongly recommended as part of an integrated approach to reduce the risk of disease transmission. For up-to-date information, click here for the County's COVID-19 Public Information Portal.
