The Sierra Memories 2008 Non-Rail Activities Chairperson,
Sally Bird, has planned a full slate of
activities for our non-rail attendees.

Wednesday
starts off the convention with a Meet and Greet Sewing
Circle, crocheting, puzzles and games, and "whatnot".

Thursday
morning begins with a trip to the iris-filled property of
Tulare's own renowned "Iris Guru", Ed Matheny, who has
introduced over 200 varieties of tall bearded, Louisiana,
and Japanese irises. Afterwards,
we'll have lunch and
"shop-hop" the rest of the day at several quilt
stores along the way back to the convention hotel. Bring money for
the no-host
lunch at your choice of either In-N-Out Burgers, Baja Fresh, Pick Up
Stix, or Visalia Mall Food Court. Extra fare for van: $10.00.

Thursday night
is "World Famous Bingo Night". Get your markers ready! (Was Friday night)

Friday morning
we will visit Pelco in nearby Clovis, a world leader
in the design and manufacture of video security systems.
Featured at Pelco is the California Memorial, a
one-of-a-kind 9/11 museum honoring the victims and fallen
heroes of that fateful day. Extra fare for van: $5.00. (Self-drive OK, too)

Friday
afternoon we will have a surprise activity in the Non-Rail room at the hotel.

Friday night is "Movie Night" with fresh-popped popcorn
and drinks. (Was Thursday night)

Saturday
morning Marilyn Long will present a purse-making
clinic. Ladies.... to follow along and make a purse, you will
need the following items:
1 yd of fabric for the outside of the purse
1-1/2 yd of contrasting fabric for the inside, pocket, and ties
1/2 yd of 3/4" heavy elastic
$5.00 for the bamboo handles, which Marilyn will pick up
If you
would like to look for fabric for the purse on
Thursday, you may find something you will
really enjoy, for on that day we will be going to
several quilt shops.

Saturday
morning the Arts & Crafts contest entries will be
judged.

Saturday mid-day is our luncheon at Marie Callender's Restaurant, 1781 E. Shaw Ave (at Cedar Ave), Fresno, from 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with lunch at noon. Come and have a good time. Hosted by Sierra Memories 2008.

Saturday night is the Convention Banquet
and award presentations.
There will also be a Railroadiana and general Arts & Crafts
contest. Get started now making those award-winning quilts,
afghans, needlepoint and other crafts projects for the contest. Here's a preview of some of Sally's
afghans.
